Zika Virus is now in the U.S. and more specifically in South Florida. And, not just brought in by people who had traveled to areas outside the country, but from infections suffered from mosquito bites here South Florida.
Not to panic yet, as all are infections are confined to a square mile in Miami, but remember, mosquitos fly and they can multiply very, very quickly. One female can produce 500 eggs.
The mosquito as a disease carrier is often remembered for spreading malaria, but the Zika virus can be far more devastating. It often does not manifest any symptoms, and yet can cause horrendous birth defects when a pregnant woman has been infected.
Be careful. Wear long sleeve clothing when outside in any area prone to mosquitos, or better yet avoid the area. Use insect sprays when you must be outside. And always avoid standing water, which are natural breeding areas.
