Zika is real! Zika is here in South Florida. We know how to eradicate the Zika carrying mosquito, but we need funding. The state of Florida has spent its reserve and the CDC has spent $194 million in the fight. We need $1.1 billion more, the congress has allocated it and the president is waiting for the bill to come out of the senate to sign it. So what’s the problem?
The senate, once again, is feuding over the language. Both agree they want to allocate the funds to fight Zika, but the republicans want to be certain Planned Parenthood doesn’t get any of the funding, and the democrats are equally adamant they should. The result is no legislation for the president’s signature and no funds for fighting the Zika virus in south Florida. There is a reason congress only has an 8% approval rating.NYTimes
