Wound Care From the Compassionate Medical Professionals at First Care in Naples, FL
Proper wound care can prevent infection and accelerate the body’s natural healing process. For prompt and appropriate wound treatment, you can count on the experienced team of medical professionals at the First Care walk-in clinic in Naples, FL, where appointments are never necessary.
Of course, there are many different kinds of wounds, including lacerations, punctures, burns, bites, and abrasions, to name a few. Because the type of wound care that is appropriate for each can vary, you may be unclear on the best place to seek treatment. In general, if you have a wound that is bleeding uncontrollably or your situation is otherwise potentially life-threatening, we urge you to head directly to the nearest emergency room.
Conversely, if you have any other type of wound, you are welcome to come to the First Care urgent care center in Naples, Florida. For instance, a deep or gaping wound may require stitches or other wound care from a medical professional. Some bite injuries may also need special attention. If you have any questions, we can help. And, if necessary, we can provide stitches, wound sterilization, antibiotic treatments, tetanus shots, and onsite X-rays to check for broken bones. We’re available on Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
For minor wounds that do not require professional medical attention, we recommend the following basic wound care steps, which you can perform at home:
- Immediately after the injury occurs, care for the wound by washing it thoroughly with clean water and mild soap (do not use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol). After removing any visible dirt or debris, apply gentle pressure to stop any bleeding.
- For a wound that results from a minor burn, run cool water over the affected area or apply a cool, wet cloth. Leave any blisters intact.
- Apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment to the wound, then cover it with a bandage.
- Until the wound is fully healed, clean it twice daily, then reapply antibiotic ointment and a new bandage.
Injuries can strike at any time. If you need wound care or would like more information, contact First Care or stop by our family medical practice in Naples, FL. We always welcome walk-in patients, but if you’d prefer, you can call ahead or schedule an appointment online.
