There are many concerns, but let’s look at the most important.
- Extra Weight Increases Cancer Risk– “the evidence is extremely clear that excess eight increases the risk of cancer, “ says Walter Willett , professor of epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health. In fact, he gives it a 99 percent-plus certainly….Extra weight increases estrogen, affects insulin and leads to chronic inflammation. All significant contributors to cancer
- Fat Cells Are Hard to Lose-Almost all the weight gain in abdominal body fat increased the fat cell size, while weight gain the legs actually gained new fat cells. It is hard enough to decrease the size of an existing fat cell, and we don’t really know if you can ever lose the new fat cells
- A Large Waist Isn’t’ Good, No Matter What Your Weight-The risk of dying rose significantly for every additional two inches of waist size.
“A large waist is an unambiguous sign of extra fat” - Saturated Fats May Boost Deep Belly Fat-Basically, while calories count for weight gain, calories from saturated fat “caused more visceral fat and more liver fat”, according to Mayo Clinic’s Michael Jensen.
- Sugars May Boost Liver & Deep Belly Fat-Excess liver fat is a sign of trouble. “It’s associated with an increased risk for insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and liver damage”, say Kimber Stanhope from University of California.
- Even an Extra 5 to 20 pounds Matters-Extra weight is not a good idea, even though weight gains such as “middle age” seem to be acceptable. Those who gained just 5 to 20 pounds after age 21 had a higher risk of type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure and those are dangerous numbers. The problem may not show up until years later, but it will be there!
So, what’s the answer. It’s the same old answer….watch how much you eat, what you eat and get some exercise. Sound Familiar?
